Complaint What Happened |
On XX/XX/2021, I received two back to back calls while I was at work. Since the number was a local one I answered but was having trouble understanding the lady on the other end so I told them I would end the call and step outside to return the call.
When I returned the call I gave my full name to a woman named XXXX who answered. She told me she would transfer me to the correct department and then the phone was answered by a woman who identified herself as XXXX. I again told her my first and last name and that I was returning a phone call and asked what the call was regarding. She told me she couldn't tell me what the call was concerning until I confirmed my social security number with her. I responded that as they had contacted me and had not even told me what company they were and that I was not going to give out my private information to someone over the phone. She told me that she didn't have to identify her company or the reason that she was calling until I gave her my social security number.
I even asked if this was for a debt collection or something similar and she told me she wasn't going to give me any information because the law prevented her from doing so.
I told her I would just end the call and block the number to which she replied that if I did she would put a note on my credit file which would cause my credit score to fall.
I ended the call and called back to speak with someone else. Again XXXX answered the phone. I once again gave her my full name and told her the situation that had just happened. She told me that again they could not give out any information without my social security number. I asked her to identify what type of business she worked for and she told me they " do many things. '' I asked if there was a supervisor I could speak with about the illegal comments that were made to me by XXXX and was told that the only person above her was the owner who did not have time to deal with me. When I mentioned that I believed that the company was acting in a illegal manner by making threats and that I would be reaching out to consumer protection agency about this incident, XXXX suddenly switched from antagonistic to pleasant and told me that she would be happy to set up a call back with the owner who previously did not have time to deal with me.
I ended the call.
A few minutes later I did call back to verify the information of who I spoke with, the company name and address, and the owners name.
The info provided to me was : Adela XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, MS XXXX XXXX Owner 's name : XXXX XXXX Never once did either agent on the phone identify themselves as a debt collector even when directly asked. They were evasive of my questions and kept asking for my social security number.
